FBI Confirms El Paso Clinic Shooting Victim was a VA Doctor

The FBI have confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday that a VA doctor was the victim in the El Paso Veterans Affairs shooting, although it failed to identify either the alleged gunman or the killed doctor. The FBI is currently leading the investigation and has announced to hold a press conference at 3 p.m. MST to reveal further information about the incident. FBI spokesperson, Michael Martinez, confirmed that it is currently working to contact and inform family members of both.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Army and FBI officials offered condolences. Reports claim that the gunman allegedly shot himself after killing the doctor. Commanding general of Fort Bliss, Maj. Gen. Stephen Twitty, revealed on Tuesday night that the incident took place at the El Paso Veteran Affairs Clinic at almost 3:10 p.m. local time. Twitty assured that “all other VA patients and staff are safe” and “everything is under control and there is no immediate threat to Fort Bliss or the local community.”

Meanwhile, FBI special agent, Doug Lindquist, also confirmed on Tuesday that agency have hundreds of witnesses to interview and “they were here seeking medical assistance.” Martinez alleged that the FBI has so far interviewed more than 100 witnesses. Officials have announced that VA clinic will remain closed on Wednesday and veterans will have theirs appointments rescheduled. While the clinic remains closed, agents have already completed their initial investigation of the crime scene.
