The Quebec Order of Nurses has finally confirmed that recent statistics have proved that Anglophone students have a much tougher time passing its licensing exam as compared to Francophones. According to the statistics revealed by The Order, 79 percent of French students passed exam in September 2014 as compared to 47 percent of English students.

However, the Order failed to take responsibility of the matter as it stressed that poorly translated exams are not the reason but lack of English on-line resources and lack of information is English textbook has played a key role. According to the student who lead a petition seeking improvements in the system, Gabriela Mizrahi, “that’s the new excuse they’re using, at this point I feel like they’re pointing the finger at everybody but themselves.  It’s not just the students that are saying there’s a problem with the terms you’re using, the syntax, the grammar, the teachers are agreeing with us, it’s very frustrating.” .

Whereas on the other hand, the president of the Order, Lucie Tremblay, mentioned that “we need to sit down with the teachers and to find solutions. We’re going to put in place new systems, there’s going to be a workshop that’s going to be available in English during our annual conference for the students to better prepare. We want those students to succeed.” Furthermore, it was highlighted that the gap between the English and French candidates has widened in the past 5 years.
