A Pickering high school was locked down as a precaution for about 90 minutes today as police tracked suspects from a home invasion to a residence located near the school.

On Monday, November 29, 2010 just after 12:30 p.m., Officers were called to a residence in the Rossland Road West/Valley Farm Road area of Pickering regarding a violent home invasion. Several unknown male suspects broke into a basement apartment in a residence, threatened two people and stole some electronic equipment before fleeing the scene. One suspect had a handgun. There were no serious injuries reported.

Information led police to a residence on Sheppard Avenue near Whites Road, where some of the suspects were believed to be located. Since the house was located close to Dunbarton High School on Sheppard Avenue, the school was locked down at approximately 1 p.m. as a safety precaution.

A command post was set up at Dunbarton High School and the Tactical Support Unit (TSU) was called in to assist. A male and female associated with the residence were arrested without incident at approximately 2 p.m. The house was searched and then the school was advised at around 2:30 p.m. that the incident was over.

The investigation is ongoing and further updates will be provided tomorrow as they become available.
