The City of Merritt has finally decided to act against a modern-day haunted house in the city and voted to demolish the property. The owner of the home, Allan Schoenborn, murdered his three children and left their bodies to be found by his wife in April 2008. Investigators reveled that Schoenborn stabbed his ten year old daughter and then proceeded to smother his two sons, aged eight and five. Consequently, the vacant home is a bitter reminder of the horrible tragedy even almost seven later.

Consequently, the City of Merritt have decided during a council meeting on Tuesday that it was in the best interest of the neighbourhood to condemn the dilapidated property at 2916 Telemon Place. According to the announcement, the City of Merritt have made numerous failed attempts over the last several years to have the current owners restore the property condition. However, since the owners have failed so far to renovate the property, Merritt council moved on Tuesday to officially declare it a nuisance pursuant according to the section 74 of the Community Charter.

The current owners of the house, Wayne Earl Pyett and Lynnette Sherilyn Pyett, have been formally instructed to demolish and remove the eye-sore and restore the property. However, in case the owners fail to renovate the property before the deadline of March 15th, 2015 as per the City’s order, the City contractors have permission to enter the property and demolish and remove the nuisance building.
