Osarenkhoe Ehondor and Mohamed Omar Salim charged for carjacking in Toronto

Update: On November 28, 2012, Mr. Ehondor attended before His Honour Mr. Justice Chisvin of the Ontario Court, and at the request of the Crown Attorney, all Charges against Mr. Ehondor were dismissed. Mr. Ehondor does not have a Criminal Record in respect of these Charges.

A joint investigation by the York Regional Police Hold-Up and Auto-Cargo Theft Units has resulted in the arrest of two men in connection with several carjackings that occurred recently in York Region and across the Greater Toronto Area as well as the recovery of 28 stolen vehicles.

On Thursday, November 18, 2010, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) recovered a 2009 Honda Pilot in a shipping container found in the Port of Halifax that had been stolen in a carjacking in York Region on November 2, 2010. As a result, members of the York Regional Police Hold-Up and Auto-Cargo Theft Units began a joint investigation into carjackings occurring in York Region and the City of Toronto between November 2 and 11, 2010.

Investigation revealed that the stolen Honda Pilot, along with other stolen vehicles, were being prepared to be shipped to Nigeria. Other shipments that had already gone out to ports in Germany and Belgium have been diverted back to Canada with the assistance of the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC). Investigators believe these diverted shipments contain three additional stolen vehicles from Toronto carjacking incidents. Investigators have already intercepted shipments in Montreal and Brampton and in total recovered 28 stolen vehicles from the GTA worth more than $1 million.

On Tuesday, November 23, 2010, investigators arrested two men in Brampton in connection with the shipping of the stolen vehicles. The investigation into both the carjackings and recovered stolen vehicles is continuing.

In the November 2, 2010 incident, the 43-year-old victim parked her vehicle at her residence located in the area of Kirby Road and Keele Street at approximately 7:30 p.m. One male suspect then approached her driver’s side door, pointed a handgun at her and demanded she exit the vehicle. Both suspects fled from the scene with a 2009 Honda Pilot. The victim
was not injured as a result of this incident.
