Royston Verney charged with robbing Metro grocers in Hamilton

Hamilton Police have arrested and charged a Hamilton man with robbery of the Metro grocery store in the east end of Hamilton.

On Wednesday, December 1st, 2010 at approximately 1:00 p.m. it is alleged that Royston Verney, entered the Metro grocery store located at 1900 King St. E. Verney stood in line at a checkout and once the line was clear of customers approached the clerk and handed her a pack of gum. After the till opened, Verney demanded the clerk to turn over the cash in the till. Verney reached toward the till and attempted to grab the cash but the clerk quickly slammed the till shut on Verney’s hand after which he fled empty handed.

Another employee of the Metro store followed Verney out of the store and observed him getting into a burgundy pick up truck. The description of the driver and truck was provided to Hamilton Police and at approximately 4:00 p.m., after a brief pursuit, police pulled over this truck in the area of Barton St. E. and Nash Rd. The driver, Royston Verney was arrested for dangerous driving.

Through further investigation it was determined that Verney was the suspect involved in the Metro store robbery.
