The Major Collision Bureau is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding a collision that left 31 year-old Erica Carmichael dead.

On Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at approximately 5:37 p.m., Ms. Carmichael was travelling on foot and attempted to cross the intersection of Torbram Road and Walker Drive. She was crossing from the south-east corner of the intersection to the north-east corner.

At the same time, a transport truck was turning right at the intersection, from northbound Torbram Road to eastbound Walker Drive, and struck the victim in the midst of the turn. Following the collision, the transport truck continued eastbound on Walker Drive, failing to remain at the scene of the collision.

The transport truck is described as bright white, with a sleeper type cab and a 53 foot box trailer.

A witness at the scene reported that a second white cargo van also proceeded to turn right onto Walker Drive, immediately following the transport truck, and also struck Ms. Carmichael. The investigation has now determined that this vehicle did not strike Ms. Carmichael.

Police are asking any driver, or pedestrian, present during, or immediately following the collision, to contact investigators and provide a description of what they heard, saw and/or videotaped.

Investigators would also like to talk to a witness who had stopped to render aid to the victim and subsequently got back into his own vehicle and drove off after the transport truck – in an attempt to have the driver stop. Investigators are eager to speak with this person, regardless of whether or not he was able to locate the truck.
