EPS West Division Patrol Officers responded to a call from ETS Security regarding an assault on a bus driver at 87 Avenue and 159 Street at approximately 11:00 p.m. on December 8, 2010. The bus driver was allegedly assaulted and the bus doors damaged after the driver asked the men to leave for not paying their fare. The men fled to a nearby gas station and took a taxi cab to the Callingwood area, but fled again before paying their fare.
The EPS Canine Unit assisted in tracking the men from the bus to the gas station, and from the taxi drop-off point to a nearby residence at 67 Avenue and 170 Street. The two adult males were arrested at the residence and are facing numerous charges including resisting arrest.
“We take all assault incidents very seriously and are pleased that we were able to resolve this so quickly,” said Staff Sergeant Dale Fenrich, EPS West Division Criminal Investigation Section. “This was very good police work by responding members and K-9 considering the circumstances, and we are thankful for all of the assistance that we received from Edmonton Transit, the taxi cab company, and witnesses.”
