The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary regrets to advise of a fatal residential fire on Gushue Avenue in Mt. Pearl, Newfoundland.

At approximately 1:00 pm, a member of the public called 911 when they noticed black soot on the windows of a residence on Gushue Avenue. When RNC Street Patrol Officers arrived on scene, firefighters had determined that there was no active fire within the residence. An adult male was pronounced at the residence, which sustained severe smoke damage and moderate fire damage.

Investigators for the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Major Crime, Fire Investigation and Forensic Identification Units remain on scene recovering physical evidence to determine the cause and time of the fire.

No other details can be released at this time until an autopsy has been performed by the Chief medical examiner.
