Reid Funeral Home has confirmed that a 30-year-old Belle River mother, Stacey Lynn Harris, has passed away on Monday at Victoria Hospital in London due to Group A streptococcus infection.

According to the obituary, “Stacey was a wonderful and devoted mother of Lilah and newborn Harper,” and is survived by her husband Brandon. It was mentioned that “the family would like to thank all of the staff at both University and Victoria Hospitals in London for the care and compassion which went above and beyond.” The obituary added that “also thank you to the community for all the support and prayers given.” A gofundme.com page called Stacey’s Recovery explained that “shortly after arriving home, she felt severely ill and was sent to the hospital and put into an induced coma to help her fight off the infection of Strep Group A. Stacey was then transported to London.”

Whereas on the other hand, Health Canada explains that “flesh-eating disease is an infection that works its way rapidly through the layers of tissue (the fascia) that surround muscles. It destroys tissue and can cause death within 12 to 24 hours.” The federal health agency adds that flesh-eating disease can be caused by a number of different bacteria, including group A streptococcus. Friends and family members have planned a pasta dinner to support the family on May 30, whereas a funeral Service to celebrate Stacey’s life will be held from the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m.

  1. Why do you think she got the infection, I was born and raised in Windsor Ont, I know for a fact that out hospitals are disguesting and under managed, this tragic death should not have occurred. There should be a revolt to change the hospitals ways and re-teach the staff, let’s make our hospitals better and maybe save lives instead of adding to the death toll. I’ve been to the hosptails many times and countless times I’ve been misdiagnosed and they even wanted to do surgical procedures on thing that weren’t the problem. #fix our hosptails, #newstaff
