Father charged in killing of his two children in Edmonton

Edmonton Police Service Homicide detectives have charged a 31-year-old male in connection with the death of two children. Their bodies were found in a North-end residence early Monday, Dec. 20, 2010 by EPS while they were completing a well-being check on the home.

Jason Bruce Cardinal, 31, has been charged with two counts of first degree murder. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010. Autopsies were performed earlier today, however, the cause of death for each individual is pending while the medical examiner awaits the results of further testing.

The names of the deceased will not be released.

Background

EPS Homicide Detectives have one man in custody after two small children were found dead in a residence near 119 Avenue and Abbotsfield Road (34 Street) shortly after midnight on Monday, Dec. 20, 2010.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, December. 19, 2010 police received a call for a welfare check at the above address. Upon entering the residence, police discovered two deceased children. EMS was called to treat non life-threatening injuries to a 31-year-old adult male.
