York Regional Police has confirmed the news about a gunman walking into a café north of Toronto, Moka Café, on Wednesday morning and opening fire that resulted in death of two people and left two others with serious injuries. Const. Andy Pattenden revealed that police were informed about the incident at 8:18 a.m. and “they found quite a scene here.”
York EMS explained that two of the victims were already dead when they arrived at the scene in the Woodbridge area of Vaughan, Ont. The remaining two victims were transported to a GTA hospital with serious injuries. In a news conference in front of the café, Const. Pattenden alleged that police has no information on a suspect so far except knowing that “a man arrived here and began shooting.” Therefore, he has urged witnesses to contact police.
The Moka café was previously known as the Doppio Espresso Bar. It’s located in a strip mall between a Pizza Pizza and a convenience store. Police has even failed to determine circumstances that led to the shooting. An employee at the Active Green and Ross Tire and Automotive Centre in the strip mall where the shooting occurred, Carmen Palma, explained that their compressors were so loud they didn’t hear anything. She alleged that “we just seen cops come by, and then they started closing down the street, so we didn’t see anything at all” adding that “we just see the aftermath of everything.”
