WestJet Airlines have confirmed in a statement that six passengers were injured in an emergency landing of a flight from Edmonton to Toronto on Monday night due to an unspecified threat. Quite noticeably, it was the third Canadian flight to be grounded in just five days due to some threat. According to WestJet’s facebook page, its Boeing 737-700 carrying 54 passengers and five crew members landed in Winnipeg and six passengers sustained “non-life threatening injuries during the emergency evacuation,” while some were transported to hospital for treatment.

The authorities have failed to reveal the type of threat against flight WS422, but police are investigating. A passenger on the plane, Joel Gupta, explained that no information was provided about the threat that caused the diversion. He stated that “all of a sudden they made an emergency evacuation warning and said, ‘Evacuate, evacuate, evacuate,'” adding that “everybody rushed to the doors and jumped off the plane; either went down the slide or slid down the wing.”

Earlier on Saturday, another WestJet flight from Halifax to Edmonton was forced to land in Saskatoon because someone called in a bomb threat. However, the passengers were told that it was an “operating issue” so “the whole atmosphere on the plane was calm. Everybody was pretty good.” One of the passengers, Rob Tomlinson, explained that “I think they maybe just made it sound like an operational issue just for the sake of keeping everybody calm.”
