Thieves steal $100000 worth of avalanche safety gear, Golden

The Golden RCMP are currently investigating a comercial break and enter which occurred between December 24, 2010 at 1500h and December 27, 2010 at 0900h at "Avalanche Safety Solutions Ltd.

Unknown suspects broke into a business in Golden, Avalanche Safety Solutions. Over $100,000 of merchandise was stolen. The stolen merchandise is very specialized snowmobiling gear and includes the following:

Approximately 100 avalanche backpacks – these backpacks are worn by snowmobilers which inflate when deployed, when caught in an avalanche. Three different brands of backpacks were stolen, with the majority being "Snow Pulse" brand packs of varying sizes, value of $1,200.00 each.

The thieves stole the packs without the required nitrogen cylinders that inflate these packs as the cylinders were stored in a different area of the warehouse. The nitrogen cylinders retail at $200.00 a piece. If anyone comes across any information about these packs being distributed/sold, etc, please contact the undersigned.

Other avalanche safety gear such as (30) avalanche beacons of varying brands (Mamut, Pieps and BCA), SPOT’s, probes, snow saws, extending rulers, etc were also stolen. There is no information on a suspect vehicle at this time.
