Codiac Regional RCMP are crediting a concerned citizen for possibly saving the life of an 84-year-old Moncton man.

Police received a call from a resident of Shediac Road shortly after 4 p.m. on December 29, 2010. The caller had become concerned for an elderly neighbour’s welfare after noticing there had been no activity around the man’s house since a snow storm a few days earlier.

The Moncton Fire Department and RCMP went to check on the man and found him in his bed, very ill and having not eaten in several days. He was taken to hospital and is now recovering.

RCMP say, had it not been for the neighbour’s call, the man’s condition could have deteriorated further.

Police would like to encourage people to keep an eye on their neighbours, especially the elderly and those who may need assistance, and to contact police if something seems amiss.
