On Thursday, December 30, St, Patrick’s Basilica in Ottawa was the scene of a funeral mass for this young gentleman who was killed on Christmas Eve. 24 year old Jack Tobin, one of his closest friends, has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, impaired driving causing death and driving over the legal limit in Alex’s death on the fifth level of a ByWard Market parking garage. According to reports, some stunt driving may have lead to Zolpis being trapped underneath a rental truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jack Tobin was released on a $100,000 bond and the terms of this release dictated that he could not attend the funeral. He is not allowed to drink, drive, or contact anyone connected to Zolpis which includes many of his friends. He is scheduled to appear in court again in January.

His father, former Newfoundland premier Brian Tobin, did not attend the funeral.

According to CTV, the Zolpis family has asked donations to be made to Mothers Against Drunk Driving in lieu of flowers.
