Body found, police suspect murder in Hope, BC

A body discovered on a remote forestry service road near Hope BC has investigators looking at the potential cause of death as foul play. IHIT investigators have taken on the investigation.

On December 30, 2010 at approximately 8:30 AM, Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment RCMP members in Hope responded to a report of a found body on a forest service road near American Creek in Hope. The body had been discovered by a local resident that was on the service road walking his dog.

Once police arrived at the location they were able to confirm the body was indeed that of a human and immediately secured the area and called in the UFVRD RCMP Serious Crime Section from Chilliwack.

IHIT investigators along with UFVRD Serious Crime investigators attended the scene and discovered evidence that suggests that the person had met with foul play. Investigators will remain on scene throughout today and perhaps tomorrow. The forestry road has been closed to public access at the point where it meets with the main highway. There will be no access to the scene.

A preliminary identification of the victim has been determined, however, confirmation of the identification along with confirmation of foul play will not occur until the autopsy. An autopsy is not scheduled until early next week. Investigators will not be releasing any further information regarding the victim until after the autopsy.

At this point of the investigation police have not made any links to gangs, drugs or organized crime.

The victim that police believe this to be is not someone that is known to police.
