British Airways flight BA274 from Las Vegas to London made an emergency dawn landing in Montreal at around 5:47 a.m. Montreal’s Trudeau airport officials confirmed that 328 passengers and crew have been offloaded safely.

The spokesperson for Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau International airport, François-Nicolas Asselin, assured that 312 passengers and 16 crew members were taken off the plane, i.e. a Boeing 747-436 flying a OneWorld livery. Asselin stated that “the pilot asked to make a diversion at Montreal-Trudeau, so the plane landed without problem just before 6 o’clock this morning.” Sources confirmed that the passengers were made to wait on the tarmac for a short while before being transported by bus to the terminal. Asselin refrained from confirming why the plane landed in Montreal as he said that “it was a preventative measure taken by the pilot. I don’t have more information than that.”

Meanwhile, Montreal Police Service (SPVM) spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant revealed around 8:20 a.m. that the passengers’ luggage is set to be removed soon and then police SWAT teams and dogs will board to investigate. A statement issued by British Airways confirmed Heathrow-bound flight landing in Montreal and stated that “the Captain took the decision to divert the aircraft as a precaution.” The airline assured that it will provide hotel rooms for the passengers and would rebook them on flights as soon as it could. It was mentioned that “we are working with the Canadian authorities and giving them our fullest support.”
