Careless smoking claims the life of Stanley Baranski, Toronto

On Saturday, January 3, 2011, at 6:15 p.m., police responded to a call for a suspicious incident in the Scarlett Road/Eglinton Avenue West area.

It is reported that:

– once on scene, members of the Toronto Police Service and the Toronto Fire Services entered the lower level of the home,

– police located a man who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man has been identified as Stanley Baranski, 55, of Toronto, the owner of the home.

Toronto Police Service, with the assistance of the Office of the Fire Marshal, and the Office of the Chief Coroner, have now concluded the man died of smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire was careless smoking, and there were no working smoke detectors in the house.
