Marina fire claims life of 49 year old man in Ladysmith, BC

Shortly after midnight on January 6th, 2011, Ladysmith RCMP were called to assist the Ladysmith Fire Department and BC Ambulance Service at the Ladysmith Maritime Docks.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel located a male in medical distress lying on the dock. Another area of dock was fully engulfed in flames. The male was transported to hospital by ambulance, and passed away a short time later. A cause of death is yet to be determined by the BC Coroners Service. The man was a 49 year old Revelstoke resident, visiting the Ladysmith area.

Despite the efforts of Ladysmith Fire Crews, several boat houses were destroyed by fire, along with several boats.

These two incidents are currently under investigation by the RCMP, Ladysmith Fire Department, and BC Coroners Service. Investigators are currently examining the scene of this death and fire, to determine the causes of both, and ascertain if the two are related.
