19 year old Kevin Moffett charged with the murder of Niko Arlia, Edmonton

19-year-old Kevin Moffett of Edmonton has been charged with second degree murder and a weapons offence in connection with our city’s second homicide of 2011.

Just before 2:00 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a weapons complaint at a community hall located at 87 Street and 130 A Avenue in the city’s northend. One male suffered fatal injuries and several others were injured. The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Niko Arlia of Edmonton. An autopsy on Arlia is scheduled for this afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

Members of the Forensic Identification Section spent much of yesterday at the scene of the incident combing the area for possible evidence.

Investigators have been interviewing a number of people who were in the community hall at the time of the incident. The hall was the site of a party for a number of youth between the ages of 15 to 20. Several witnesses who were in the hall at the time of the incident are being interviewed. Police are trying to determine what sparked the disturbance.

This is the second homicide of 2011, this compares to one the same time last year.

  4. kevin a person are you kcomment_IDding me ?!? it makes me angry to hear that he made his own decision to go to the hall and stab niko to death NIKO DIDNT MAKE THE decision to DIE. HE DIED ALONE AND SCARED with noone to hold him and tell everything will be okay. HE DID NOT DESERVE TO DIE THAT WAY. kevin should live with this everyday knowing the pain he caused. he should LIVE with iT & BE GRATEFULL that at least he’s still LIVING he stole someones baby, brother, friend. he had his whole LIFE to LIVE and now because of some little boy trying to prove himself hes gone FOREVER.
niko ill always miss you xoxoxo.

  6. Not a day goes by that i dont think about you bro. when i wake up in the morning and all throughout the day till i go to bed. you dcomment_IDnt deserve this. you were my niko. and i love you for that. but i guess god was just ready to take you into his kingdom. loveee youuuu Niko Franko Arlia

  7. I would like to think that when someone deccomment_IDes to commit a heinous crime that they lose the right to be thought of as a person. Killing someone is not a “mistake”. Kevin made the decision to take another persons life. Yes he will have to live with this for the rest of his life. As he should. I find it insulting that amongst all of these peoples messages of love and pain… That someone would have to audacity to comment_content that “Kevin is still a person”.

I’m so sorry for everyone’s loss. Never forget your friend.
