The Hamilton Police Service Victims of Crime Sexual Assault Unit has arrested and charged a Hamilton man alleged to be involved in a New Year’s Eve Sexual Assault.

On January 1st, 2011, at approximately 3:00 a.m., a 27 yr. old woman and her female friend were walking home along Main St. E. When they reached the area of Walnut St. they were met by a man who walked with them and struck up a conversation. When the three reached the apartment building of the 27 yr. old, the man asked to come in to use the washroom. He was allowed inside the apartment. After using the washroom the man was asked to leave and he did, as did the woman’s female companion.

Later that morning, at approximately 5:30 a.m., the woman woke up to find the man back inside her apartment. The man sexually assaulted the woman and fled. The victim found her purse emptied of her cash. The woman chased after the suspect but he fled on Main St. E.

The victim contacted Hamilton Police and the Victim of Crimes Unit continued to investigate. A suspect was identified and on January 5th, 2011, at approximately 1:00 p.m., investigators arrested the suspect at his home. He was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody.
