A Hamilton man armed with a firearm was arrested and charged by Hamilton Police in a local licensed establishment.

Earlier today, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a 34 yr. old Hamilton man called police to report he had just been assaulted by a suspect armed with a handgun. The victim reported the armed suspect was headed toward Ed’s Sports bar where he believed the suspect was going to commit a robbery.

Hamilton Police were provided with a description of the suspect and plain clothes officers headed to the bar. The suspect was located inside the bar but then exited followed by the officers. The officers attempted to arrest the suspect outside the bar but the suspect ran back inside. The suspect ran through the bar attempting to leave through the rear kitchen area without success. He was arrested at gunpoint. An imitation firearm was located and seized. Nobody was injured during the incident.

Charged: Joseph GENERAL, 28 yrs. of Hamilton

Charges: Carry Concealed Weapon
Possession of Weapon Dangerous to Public
Use Imitation Firearm while Committing an Offence
Use Imitation Firearm While Committing an Assault
Assault with a Weapon

Joseph GENERAL is scheduled for a bail hearing today. Hamilton Police are opposing his release.
