After a thorough and expedient investigation, West Division officers have charged a man who allegedly made threats against schools in the city.

On Jan. 15, 2011, a threatening email was sent to a local television station stating that an unidentified Edmonton school would be targeted on Jan. 17, 2011. A similar email was received approximately an hour later by the same media outlet, who promptly contacted the school boards and EPS.

Initial investigations led officers to a computer server in Toronto but follow up work resulted in a suspect being identified in Edmonton. The man was arrested on the evening of Jan. 17 in his downtown apartment without incident.

Nilo NARANJILLA, 43 was charged with uttering threats (x2). The accused was lodged in cells on the night of the arrest and a no-contact provision with the media outlet and both school boards was requested.

“The EPS treats these types of threats very seriously and will exercise all means possible to locate the person responsible,” says Staff Sgt. Todd Laycock of West Division. “
