On Saturday, January 22, 2011, at approximately 3.20 a.m., officers from Traffic Services were investigating a collision on the eastbound lanes of the Fred Gardiner Expressway near Jameson Avenue.

It is alleged that:

– two officers from Traffic Services were blocking the middle and curb eastbound lanes in marked police vehicles using emergency lighting and directional arrows,

– a Honda, being driven by a 46-year-old man was travelling eastbound and struck the rear of both police vehicles,

As a result of the collision, both officers and the driver of the Honda were all taken to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Honda was arrested for Impaired Driving and remains in hospital.

Both officers were treated and released from hospital.

The investigation is continuing.

The eastbound lanes of the Gardiner Expressway were closed for approximately eight hours, re-opening just before noon.
