55 year old man dragged to his death by TTC streetcar

On Friday, January 21, 2011, at 5:20 a.m., police responded to the report of a pedestrian struck collision on Dufferin Street, north of St. Clair Avenue West.

It is reported that:

– a southbound TTC bus on Dufferin Street, stopped at a bus stop, about 60 metres north of St. Clair Avenue West,

– several riders were boarding the bus, using the front doors, as a 55-year-old man was exiting the bus through the front doors,

– the 55-year-old man stepped off the bus, turning to his left, and lost his balance falling onto the roadway immediately in front of the bus,

– the bus proceeded southbound, striking the man on the roadway and, as a result of the impact, the man became pinned under the right front wheel of the bus.

The 55-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
