Christopher Donnelly and Ashley Burt charged with robberies in Toronto

On Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at 5:12 a.m., police responded to a robbery call at the Pioneer gas station, at 198 Brown’s Line.

It is alleged that:

– a man entered the Pioneer gas station store area on Brown’s Line, while a woman remained waiting in a car in front of the gas station,

– the man walked to the counter, pointed a handgun at the attendant, and made a demand for cash,

– the man left the store and got into the waiting car and drove off,

– a partial licence plate was recorded at the scene.

It is further alleged that:

– at 11:55 a.m., police found the vehicle used in the above armed robbery on Shaw Street,

– two men and a woman began to get out of the car when officers approached to make arrests,

– the woman ran, but was arrested a short distance away,

– the two men got back into the car and drove off at high speed,

– the vehicle drove the wrong way down Richmond Street West, a one-way street, and collided head-on with another car,

– the driver attempted to prevent the two men from running away,

– one of the men pulled out a handgun and fired two shots into the ground, then the two men fled, prior to police arriving at the collision scene,

– after a search of the area, both men were arrested and a loaded handgun seized.

After further investigation, one of the men, 33, was released with no charges laid.

Christopher Donnelly, 30, of Burlington, has been charged with:
1. Possession of Restricted Firearm with Ammunition,
2. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm,
3. Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized.
4. Discharge Firearm Endanger Life,
5. Firearm Careless Use,
6. Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order,
7. Possess Firearm Serial Number Altered,
8. Dangerous Operation,
9. Fail to Stop After Accident,
10. Robbery While Armed with a Firearm.

Ashley Burt, 26, of Toronto, has been charged with:
1. Possession of Restricted Firearm with Ammunition,
2. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm,
3. Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized.

Both accused were scheduled to appear in court at College Park Courts on Thursday, January 27, 2011, room 507, 10 a.m.
