A resident of Pickering has been charged with assaulting a by-law officer after a verbal altercation turned physical in front of a Pickering public school yesterday.

On Wednesday January 26, 2011 at approximately 3:20 p.m. a City of Pickering by-law officer was issuing an infraction notice to a motorist in front of Glengrove Public school, when the operator of the vehicle became verbally abusive and confrontational towards the by-law officer. As the officer approached the vehicle to affix the ticket, the driver placed his vehicle in motion, striking the peace officer twice. As the peace officer approached the suspect’s vehicle again, the driver opened the driver’s side door, striking the victim again. The suspect then exited his vehicle and physically assaulted the officer before driving to the school’s parking lot. The by-law officer’s injuries were not serious in nature.
