The Calgary Police Service has charged a local man in connection with an incident involving several aircraft being hit by a laser.

On Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at approximately 6 p.m., several aircraft reported an individual was shining a green-coloured laser at them from an area in the Shawnessy Shopping Centre on Shawville Boulevard S.W.

On Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, police arrested Chris Sean SAULNIER, 39, of Calgary, and have charged him with one count of engaging in behaviour that endangers the safety or security of an aircraft in flight by interfering with the performance of the duties of any crew members, two counts of projecting a bright light source into navigable airspace in such a manner to create a hazard to aviation safety and two counts of mischief to property.

SAULNIER was given a promise to appear and is next scheduled to appear in Calgary Provincial Court on Thursday, March 3, 2011
