On Saturday January 29th, 2011, at approximately 7:00 p.m., officers from East Division were called to the scene of a serious collision between a snowmobile and a pick-up truck. A snowmobile driven by a 41-year-old Caesarea man was eastbound on Lake Scugog near the foot of Pier Street in Caesarea when he drove into the side of a pick-up truck that was parked and unattended on the lake.
The operator of the snowmobile was thrown from the machine and sustained serious injuries. He was air lifted to a Toronto area trauma hospital where he is listed in serious condition with several bone fractures and other internal injuries.
Members of the Durham Regional Police – Traffic Services Branch, Collision Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. Weather conditions were reportedly good at the time of the collision, however, alcohol is believed to be a major contributing factor.
Investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have information or witnessed this incident.
