Edmonton police confirm Christopher Allan Pirie was murdered

The EPS Homicide Section has identified the deceased male found covered in snow early Friday, Jan. 28, as 32-year-old Christopher Allan Pirie of Edmonton.

The autopsy has been completed and cause of death will not be released. Pirie’s death has been confirmed a homicide by the medical examiner. Detectives continue to investigate.

At the end of January 2010 Edmonton recorded two homicides, compared to four this year.

Background

At approximately 5 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011 Edmonton Police Officers responded to 114 Avenue and 82 Street regarding a trouble with person call.

During the course of the investigation, patrol members discovered a body behind the residence under a pile of snow.

Homicide is leading the investigation, as it appears criminal in nature. The scene has been secured to complete forensic analysis. Officers are interviewing individuals found in the home and are surveying the neighbourhood for any information or witnesses.

Gender and age of the victim have not yet been released.
