North Vancouver: A North Vancouver resident discovered a body in a small wooded area in a quiet neighborhood.

On Tuesday February 2, 2011 at approximately 1:00 PM North Vancouver RCMP were contacted regarding a suspicious occurrence in the 2300 block of Kirkstone Road. Once police arrived on scene they were able to confirm that the incident was a deceased body and foul play was suspected.

North Vancouver Serious Crime Section immediately engaged the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

Currently, the Lower Mainland District Forensic Identification Section is on scene pouring over the scene to find facts and evidence. The Lower Mainland District Police Dog Service is conducting a search in the area.

Investigators are not able to conclusively state the gender or age of the deceased person. An autopsy is expected to take place in the coming days which is expected to assist with gender, age and identity.

North Vancouver RCMP members accompanied with investigators from IHIT will be in the neighborhood throughout tonight and tomorrow conducting inquiries in the community. Officers will be looking to determine how long the body has been at the location and any other suspicious activity seen in the area.

The Lower Mainland District Tactical Troop members will be at the scene tomorrow to conduct a comprehensive search in the wooded area where the discovery was made.
