Calgary Police has confirmed to have arrested Vancouver-based pot activist, Dana Larsen, and charged him for distributing marijuana seeds. However, the activist has vowed to continue his pro-legalization rallies and tour despite being arrested. He stressed that “it’s absolutely fuelling the fire,” because “I’m getting more requests for seeds and have more people contacting me to donate seeds — so really, this kind of harassment just gets people worked up and gets way more media attention.”
44-year-old Larsen was arrested on Wednesday evening in Calgary while he was visiting the city for his cross-country OverGrow Canada tour. Larsen has planned to give away seeds in each city. Calgary police were stationed outside Larsen’s rally at a Days Inn on Wednesday and it says that “despite a high-profile presence of uniformed police officers, a rally organizer began distributing marijuana seeds to members of the audience.” Police statement released on Thursday explained that “as the seeds ran out, a man went to a van to retrieve more stock, at which time he was arrested and taken into custody.”
Whereas on the other hand, Larsen claimed that “I ran outside to see what was going” and when I saw one of my volunteers being arrested, I told police: “You have to arrest me, too.” Thereafter, Larsen was arrested and police also found 119 grams of marijuana, worth about $1,190, and 1,097 grams of marijuana seeds, worth about $30,000. A small amount of cannabis resin and oil was also found.
