alberta parent convicted in son’s death writes openly to juryThe Alberta parents convicted in the death of their 18-month-old son, 32-year-old David Stephan and his wife 35-year-old Collet, have finally made a public comment about the verdict against them. The jury found the parents guilty of failing to provide the necessaries of life on April 26 in connection with the death of their son. The child, Ezekiel, died of meningitis in March 2012.

According to the medical reports, the toddler had croup or flu like symptoms and was treated for over two weeks with home remedies. However, they were clearly suggested by a nurse friend that Ezekiel possibly has meningitis and should see a professional. The father of the child, David, wrote a Facebook post addressed to the jury members on Wednesday that he appreciates the sacrifice each person made over the eight-week trial, but regrets that they were deceived by the crown.

In his Facebook post, David writes that “I only wish that you could’ve seen how you were being played by the crowns deception, drama and trickery that not only led to our key witnesses being muzzled, but has also now led to a dangerous precedent being set in Canada. The flood gates have now been opened and if we do not fall in line with parenting as seen fit by the government, we all stand in risk of criminal prosecution.” Furthermore, David mentioned at the end that the crown prosecutor tainted the jury by combating the fact that the “ill equipped ambulance resulted in Ezekiel’s brain death.”
