toronto police to lift uot lockdown after report of armed manToronto police has confirmed to have finished their search operation without any suspects’ arrest after they were informed about suspicious activity at the University of Toronto. The investigators revealed on Monday that they searched the university premises for over four hours after two calls were made to report a man with a gun.

Sergeant Sean Cassidy mentioned in his remarks that “we’re satisfied at this time that there’s no person with a gun,” adding that “I’m sure the investigators will continue to speak to the original complainant. But at this time, we don’t have concerns over public safety.” Police was searching the campus for a man dressed in all black, who was wearing a surgical mask and carrying a knapsack. Sgt. Cassidy claimed that policed aided in a “controlled evacuation” in three buildings but now the tape would be taken down and traffic allowed to re-enter. Upon inquiry about the genuineness of reports about the gunman, Sgt. Cassidy replied that police are looking into the complainant who initially reported the incident to the U of T police.

Meanwhile, police had brought another man in handcuffs to the back of a police van. However, he was released later without charges as Toronto Police Chief, Mark Saunders, confirmed that the man was not the main suspect of the investigation. Witnesses claim that the mood of the students stuck in the lockdown was calm but they quickly received worried texts after the university sent the alert.
