Four charged in Toronto failed kidnapping

On Friday, February 11, 2011, at 8:40 p.m., 51 Division Major Crime officers, in conjunction with members of Intelligence Services, started a kidnapping investigation.

It is alleged that:

– on Friday, February 11, 2011, at 2 p.m., a 21-year-old man was confronted and abducted by four males, two of whom were armed with handguns,

– a ransom demand was made to the victim’s family,

– police attempted to arrest the four males in the Sherbourne Street/Dundas Street East area,

– the four males fled on foot,

– one male, a Young Offender, was arrested in front of 245 Sherbourne Street,

– the three other males ran to a first-floor apartment at 257 Sherbourne Street, where two of the males forced their way inside, assaulting the homeowners,

– the third male, a Young Offender, was apprehended as he tried to enter the unit,

– he was in possession of a loaded handgun,

– one of the two outstanding males who had forced his way into the apartment, ran out the back door of the unit and was apprehended,

– he was also armed with a loaded handgun.

– the last male barricaded himself inside the unit,

– the male was removed from the home by members of the Emergency Task Force,

– the victim was released unharmed.

– police recovered a loaded 9 mm semi-automatic pistol and a loaded .38 special revolver.

A 19-year-old man, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Kidnapping,
2) Forcible Confinement,
3) Threatening Death
4) Threatening Bodily Harm,
5) Forcible entry,
6) Assault.

A 23-year-old man, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Kidnapping,
2) Forcible Confinement,
3) Threatening Death,
4) Threatening Bodily Harm,
5) Forcible entry,
6) two counts of Assault,
7) Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized,
8) Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition,
9) Unauthorized possession of a firearm,
10) Careless storage of a firearm,
11) Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device,
12) Possession of firearm obtained by the commission of an offence,
13) Possession for the Purpose Cocaine,
14) Possession of Marijuana,
15) Possession of Proceeds of Crime,
16) three counts of Fail to comply Recognizance,

A 16-year-old boy, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Kidnapping,
2) Forcible Confinement,
3) Threatening Death,
4) Threatening Bodily Harm,
5) Fail/Refuse to comply Y.C.J.A,
6) Possession Property obtained by Crime,

A second 16-year-old boy, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Kidnapping,
2) Forcible Confinement,
3) Threatening Death,
4) Threatening Bodily Harm,
5) Fail/Refuse to comply Y.C.J.A,
6) Fail/Refuse to comply Y.C.J.A.,
7) Fail/Refuse to comply Y.C.J.A.,
8) Fail/Refuse to comply Y.C.J.A.,
9) Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized,
10) Unauthorized possession of a firearm,
11) Careless storage of a firearm,
12) Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order.

The Young Offenders cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
