Investigators from the 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have arrested a man for impersonating police and extorting money from a 74 year-old woman.

On four occasions in 2011, the victim, a 74 year-old Brampton woman, was contacted by the suspect via telephone. It is alleged that the suspect, posing as a police officer, would demand that the victim pay him or he would arrest her. Believing that she would be arrested, the victim paid the suspect over $11,000.00.

The suspect, Valentino Frank VAJDA, a 25 year-old resident of Mississauga, has been arrested and will be in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Wednesday, February 16, 2011, facing the charges of Extortion and Personate a Peace Officer.

Investigators believe that there may be others victims and are asking that they come forward to speak to police.
