On Monday February 14, 2011 at approximately 11 a.m. officers responded to a domestic- related incident in the vicinity of Westney Road and Rossland Road in Ajax. The female complainant greeted officers and indicated her ex-husband was in the residence contrary to his probation order to remain away from the home. Officers verbally engaged the suspect in their attempts to escort him from the residence peacefully.
The suspect became physically agitated and armed himself with three kitchen knives and threatened the officers at scene. One of the officers deployed the conducted energy weapon but the suspect remained combative while being arrested. A physical altercation continued and spilled onto the front lawn before the male was handcuffed. One officer received a minor laceration on his head, a second officer was bitten by the suspect and the third officer received a minor finger injury. All three officers required medical attention.
The suspect received medical attention from EMS staff and was medically cleared at the scene.
A 44-year-old male resident of Ajax has been charged with: Assault a Peace Officer x3; Obstruct/Resist a Peace Officer; Fail to Comply with a Probation Order and Possess Weapons Dangerous to Public Peace. The accused was held for a bail hearing.
