On Jan. 9, 2009 the Edmonton Police Service and the Medical Examiner’s Office investigated the death of a seven-year-old boy who died at home in southwest Edmonton.

The child was disabled and received round-the-clock assistance from the parents and medically trained caregivers.

Several months after his death, police received new information which caused the investigation to be reopened by Homicide Section detectives. Investigations led to evidence which has resulted in four charges being laid against the caregiver who was present when the child died in his home.

Renee Marie Boudreau, 31 was charged on Feb. 17, 2011 with manslaughter, mischief endangering life, failing to provide the necessaries of life and criminal negligence causing death.

No court date has been set at this time and due to the matter now going before the courts, the EPS is not in a position to provide additional details.

The death has been classified a homicide and is being included in the 2011 numbers.
