ihit investigates suspected murder, suicide of two at coquitlamThe Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has revealed a body was recovered from Buntzen Lake of a women suspected of killing another 22-year-old woman at a home on Eagleridge Drive on Friday. According to Staff Sergeant Jennifer Pound, “while evidence gathered suggests this to be a tragic case of murder/suicide, there remains much work to be done.”

Police revealed to have first been contacted about a woman in medical distress at 1100-block of Eagleridge Drive at almost 5 p.m. PT on Friday. Upon its arrival, police found the woman dead and called on the IHIT to take over the case after foul play was suspected.  IHIT mentioned in a press release that “a female suspect, known to the victim, was identified and had left the scene in a vehicle prior to police attendance.” Thereafter, the agency coordinated with Coquitlam RCMP, Air1 and Coquitlam Search and Rescue to locate the suspect’s vehicle at Buntzen Lake on Saturday where the woman was found deceased and the body was recovered from the water. IHIT updated that “the family is cooperating and are attempting to process this traumatic loss as best as they can.”

Although officials have not yet released the identities of the deceased, neighbours and friends who came to the crime scene on Saturday alleged that the two women were a mother and her daughter. One friend named Elda mentioned that “I’m in shock because I talk to her everyday,” adding that “all my neighbours are in shock, not just me.”
