One man feared dead as ATV sinks below ice, Barrington, N.S

On Sunday, February 20th, at approximately 8:30 p.m., 911 received a call that two males operating an ATV had broken through the ice on Oak Park Lake, located in Barrington, Shelburne County, N.S.

Barrington RCMP arrived on scene with the local fire department. One male was quickly rescued from the water by fire department personnel, but a search failed to locate the second male, who is 24 years of age. Barrington Ground Search and Rescue were called in to assist the Barrington RCMP and Fire Department. Searches scouring the shoreline were conducted throughout the night, but failed to locate the missing male.

An RCMP Dive Team has arrived on site to assist in the search. The rescued male was treated on site by EHS, and was transported to Yarmouth Regional Hospital to be examined. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
