EPS Homicide Section detectives have laid charges in connection with the death of a man on Sunday.

On Feb. 20, 2011 at approximately 2 a.m. North Division officers received reports of an injured male in the area of 127 Avenue and 118 Street, where a body was found lying in an alley in the back of the residence. Officers were able to link the victim to a rooming house nearby. The man was taken to hospital for treatment.

Homicide Detectives were called in to take over the investigation at 11 a.m., an hour before Stacy Steinhauer, 28, died in hospital.

A suspect was arrested at the scene the same day and a second male in the rooming house was taken in for questioning and arrested for outstanding warrants. Investigators have determined that an altercation fuelled by alcohol took place inside the residence before the homicide occurred.

Daniel Friday, 25, is facing charges of second degree murder, possession of a weapon and breach of probation (x2). He will appear in court on Tuesday morning.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning. The cause of death won’t be released until after autopsy results are available.
