The disorderly conduct of the attendees came toward the end of the “Youth Day,” i.e. a promotional event when people under 17 years old get in for just $6.

According to the video footage obtained from the event, fights broke out amid a heated groups of young people at the CNE’s midway and police had to be brought in to disperse the crowd. One of the attendees mentioned that “it was a very scary scene because you had to run really fast so that people wouldn’t trample you.” Soon after the fight broke out, the officials announced to shut down the event in consultation with Toronto police at around 9 p.m. The three teens arrested included a 16-year-old boy who was arrested for assault and failing to comply with conditions, a 16-year-old girl was arrested for assault and a 17-year-old boy was arrested for drug possession.

CNE general Manager, Virginia Ludy, alleged that “the behavior that we saw was very disappointing,” adding that “it’s not something that I would expect of the youth of Toronto. When we have to shut down an event of this size and scope because of the behavior of a few, it’s very disappointing.” Furthermore, Ludy stressed that CNE will review the incident to make sure an event like this does not happen again in the future.
