On Monday, April 11, 2011, District 2 RCMP were alerted to be on the lookout for a black Porsche SUV, with no plates, traveling westbound on the Trans Canada Highway towards Oromocto at very high speed.

The vehicle was pursued briefly, but when the suspect driver’s speed reached close to 200 km/hr and showed no sign of slowing, the pursuit was terminated for safety reasons.

A road block was established nearby, causing the suspect to turn around and travel the wrong way in the westbound lanes. The driver took Exit 301, against the flow of traffic, into the Town of Oromocto.

Due to the erratic and dangerous nature of the driver’s behaviour, the vehicle was not pursued by police. Thanks to tips from the public, police were able to locate the vehicle a short time later, hidden behind a grocery store and mall. The suspect was apprehended inside the mall, while trying to flee on foot.

22-year-old Craig John McPhee, of Halifax, was arrested and later appeared in Burton Provincial Court, where he was charged with evading police. He pleaded guilty and was fined $1150.00 and issued a 12-month, Canada-wide driving prohibition.
