Margaret Moran_appears_in_court_with_tearsFormer Labour MP, Margaret Moran has appeared in court as she has been accused of the toll expenses scandal of around £80,000.

Moran, 56-year-old, who represented Luton South and stood down at the last election, will appear next at Southwark Crown Court on October 28. She is currently facing 15 charges of false accounting and six of using a false instrument. She has been alleged of flipping her designated second home, making claims for properties inLondon,LutonandSouthampton. Prosecutors also allege that Moran has submitted forged invoices and dishonestly claimed £22,500 to repair dry rot at herSouthamptonhome.

She is further accused of falsely claiming £14,805 for boiler repairs and work on her conservatory. Prosecutor, Louis Mably told the court that the charges, which concern claims made between 2004 and 2008, involve a total of about £80,000. 

Moran appeared at City ofWestminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, speaking only to confirm her name and date of birth. She was wearing a dark suit and there she started crying in the dock before the hearing.

In the past expenses scandal cases, Ex- Labour MPs David Chaytor, Eric Illsley, Elliot Morley and Jim Devine have been jailed for fraudulent activities.
