At approximately 12.10hrs on Friday 21 August 2009 a cash-in-transit guard was robbed by [E] of an empty cash security box having just carried out a delivery to Nationwide, 192 Fore Street, Edmonton.

The 16year old then left the scene in a white van, which police believe was driven by Amini, and headed towards the A406. Within 30 minutes the Ford Connect was found abandoned in nearby Palmerston Crescent.

Approximately one hour later officers spotted the six defendants in Green Lane, Ilford acting suspiciously around a silver VW Golf. The group were seen to place a large item inside a multi-coloured laundry bag before storing it in the boot of the car. They then drove off.

Officers attempted to stop the car, but it sped off. After a short pursuit, the six got out of the car and were chased by officers. Nkosi, Matumona and Dimena were detained and arrested in nearby streets.

Officers saw two of the suspects get into a mini-cab. The vehicle was stopped nearby and the 16-year-old and Amini were arrested. Banya ran from the scene.

The Golf was searched and the stolen security cash box was recovered from the boot.

Nkosi, Matumona, Dimena, Amini and the 16-year-old were taken into custody at Ilford police station and all subsequently charged with the robbery.

Amini was subsequently found to be in possession of an amount of stolen dye-stained money and later charged with an additional offence.

Property found on Nkosi and Matumona, namely stolen dye-stained cash, linked them to a second similar cash-in-transit robbery the previous day (20 Aug) outside Aldi in High Road, Tottenham, whereby a security box containing an amount of money was stolen.

The pair were subsequently additionally charged in connection with this second robbery.

Further enquiries by officers identified Banya as the sixth suspect and he was subsequently arrested in January 2010 and charged in connection with the robbery. He was also later linked to the earlier robbery.

On 19 March 2010 at Wood Green Crown Court Nkosi, Matumona and Banya pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit the two robberies.

On 10 June at Wood Green Crown Court, following an eight-day trial, Amini and the 16-year-old were found guilty of conspiracy to commit the robbery on 21 Aug.

DCI Ian Corner, Barking Flying Squad said: "These were dangerous individuals who posed a serious threat to the community and who could have been able to commit further offences had they not been apprehended."
