A South African mother has been arrested on suspicion of murdering her three disabled children after they were found dead at their home at New Malden, south London.

The Metropolitan Police have told on Wednesday that a 42-year-old woman was in custody after the bodies of a four-year-old girl and twin boys, aged three were discovered on Tuesday night after they were called to the property.

The cause of the deaths is still being investigated and police are believed to have removed a number of evidence bags from the property. No more details are released by police.

The parents were named as Gary Clarence, a senior executive at banking group Investec, and his wife Tania Clarence, a graphic designer.

It is understood that the family originally belong to South Africa and have been living at the house for over a year.

They had four children, and the youngest three are thought to have suffered from a genetic disorder known as spinal muscular atrophy, which is believed to be life-limiting. One of them was restrained to a wheelchair for moving around.

Mrs Clarence is understood to be responsible to take care of children for the full-time, while her husband Gary was at work.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said the woman had received treatment for her minor injuries before being discharged and arrested.

The police have stated: “Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident at this time.”

The reports also suggest that father of the kids was on holiday with his seven years-old eldest daughter, at the time but was flying back to Britain on Wednesday. However they have been informed about the tragedy.
