Crowds have gathered to pay tribute to the teenage cancer fundraiser Stephen Sutton, who lost his fight against cancer.

The inspiring 19-year-old had raised more than £4m for the Teenage Cancer Trust after being diagnosed with terminal cancer at the age of 15.

The young cancer victim touched the lives of millions with his brave battle against the disease and has inspired countless more right up until his death.

His family, friends and mourners were joined by more than 11,000 people who have paid their respects to the inspirational teen since Thursday.

His body was taken for the private funeral following a service at the cathedral.

Before his death, Stephen had said: “I don’t see the point in measuring life in terms of time any more.

“I’d rather measure life in terms of making a difference.”

The Dean of Lichfield has said in a special tribute to the teen at his private memorial service that he was “glad and proud to be part of the same human race”.

“It would be usual now, if this was a church service, to say ‘rest in peace’ but I can’t imagine Stephen doing that.”

“He’d say ‘Live it up’, so – one more time – let’s give him a thumbs up.”
