A British football team, Chelsea, has promised to provide complete support for any criminal action against its fans who were found to be physically stopping a black man from getting on the Paris metro on Tuesday. According to the video obtained by media sources, the man made several attempts to board a train at Richelieu-Drouot station but was pushed back each time by a group of passengers who seemed to be Chelsea supporters.

In addition to that, the video shows the alleged Chelsea supporters group chanting that “we’re racist, we’re racist and that’s the way we like it.” Currently, Chelsea team is in France to play Paris Saint-Germain in a Champions League first-leg tie, which finished 1-1. According to a press statement issued by Chelsea on Wednesday, “such behavior is abhorrent and has no place in football or society” and so “we will support any criminal action against those involved in such behavior, and should evidence point to the involvement of Chelsea season ticket holders or members the club will take the strongest possible action against them including banning orders.”

Meanwhile, both French and British police have announced to be analyzing the footage. French authorities mentioned in a statement that “police measures were deployed last night for the football match in order to prevent any violence. None occurred” adding that “the police department only found out about this incident once the video was uploaded on the internet.” It was stated that “the prefect then wished for the Chelsea supporters to be identified. The Paris prosecutor has opened an investigation and is now in charge.”
