Turkey has returned three teenagers to the UK after detaining them in Istanbul for several days on suspicion of planning to cross over to Syria in order to join ISIS. The authorities confirm that the teenagers included two 17-year-old boys from North West London and a 19-year-old man. They are believed to have been returned to the UK yesterday and currently remain in a central London police station.

A report by Reuters has confirmed that the Turkish officials suspected them of planning to travel across the border to join militant group ISIS or Islamic State. Consequently, the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command (CTC) have now arrested all three males on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts, although none of them have been charged as yet. Police were made aware that the teenagers intended to travel to Syria and alerted the Turkish authorities who were able to intercept them before crossing the border.

A few weeks ago, the international police were hunting for three London schoolgirls who were thought to be missing after travelling to Turkey in February. Although, now the GCSE pupils, including 15-year-old Amira Abase, 15-year-old Shamima Begum and 16-year-old, are believed to have reached ISIS’s de facto capital of Raqqa, in -Syria. Authorities revealed a CCTV footage of the three girls waiting for a bus to the Syrian border as an interpreter says “take the Syrian passports, one, two, three,” adding that “it’s nice” as a car can be heard driving off.
